The company has announced licensing partnerships with original development manufacturing (ODM) companies to use Tizen OS on non-Samsung smart TVs. ODM brands include HKC, Atmaca and Tempo, and some of these brands are already available in Australia. Tizen-enabled TVs include Bauhn, Linsar, Sonny and Vispera, which will be available in Europe by the end of 2022.

Tizen OS provides a premium Smart TV experience and is an open source operating system. Samsung’s partnership with Linux in 2012 marked the birth of Tizen. Since then, Tizen has grown exponentially, with more than 200 million people worldwide using Tizen-enabled Samsung Smart TVs.

The Samsung Tizen TV Platform Licensing Program was announced at the 2021 Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). The license allows other brands to use Tizen OS with access to industry-leading smart features, content discovery tools, a modern interface, and a wealth of apps.

Some of the features available in Tizen OS are Samsung TV Plus, Universal Guide and Bixby voice assistant. Users can tell Bixby to search, watch or perform multiple tasks. Global adoption of the Tizen operating system is expected to blossom with the opening of access to non-Samsung TV brands. Samsung said it will continue to expand the Tizen licensing program and introduce more Tizen-enabled products and brands. Besides Australia, other countries where non-Samsung Tizen TVs will be available include Germany, Italy, Turkey, the UK and New Zealand.
