According to Mark Gurman BloombergApple plans to release iPadOS 16.1 in the last week of October, blocking new software bugs or issues.

Gurman said in a tweet today that iPadOS 16.1 is scheduled to be released on October 24. Apple will likely release iOS 16.1 at the same time as iPadOS 16.1 as the latest beta of each update has the same build number.

Given the delay, iPadOS 16 will be released as iPadOS 16.1. The update is compatible with all iPad Pro models, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later, and iPad 5th generation and later. Apple previously said that iPadOS 16 will be released in October, but the company did not give a specific release date.

iPadOS 16 was originally expected to launch alongside iOS 16 in September, but Apple delayed the update after some users criticized the new Stage Manager feature that lets you run multiple apps in conflicting windows.

Apple recently expanded Stage Manager to older iPad Pro models with A12X and A12Z chips released in 2018 and 2020, but limited the feature to four apps on those models’ built-in display without external display support. Apple has also delayed external display support for iPad models with the M1 chip until later this year.

Apple has improved Stage Manager in recent weeks, but some users said that the feature still has a few issues in the latest beta of iPadOS 16. macOS Ventura will also be released in October, possibly alongside iPadOS 16.1.
