Hepsiburada represented Turkey at UN roundtable on gender equality

Hepsiburada joined the signatories of the UN Global Compact focusing on sustainable business under the umbrella of the United Nations, becoming the only company to represent Turkey under the spokespersonship of Human Resources Group Chair Esra Bayzadeoğlu on the UN round table held around the world at the convention.

Turkey’s Hepsiburada has become part of this flagship initiative, which was established with the aim of supporting corporate sustainability under the UN umbrella, with its signing at Turkey’s 10th General Assembly of the Global Compact (UN Global Compact) of the United Nations. in Istanbul last March.

Besides the leading members of the initiative established under the umbrella of the UN with the aim of gender equality and sustainable business, Hepsiburada was the only company to represent Turkey in the roundtable panel organized by the UN on the convention on 7 April. To the UNECE Roundtable on Gender Equality of the Economic Commission for Europe, UN High Secretary, Olga Algayerova, together with UN officials and business representatives from 6 countries that have signed the Global Compact, from Denmark to England, Canada to Spain, Esra Beyzadeoğlu, Head of Hepsiburada Human Resources Group. Esra Beyzadeoğlu had the opportunity to explain Hepsiburada’s approach to gender equality and women’s employment, and the reasons for signing the Global Compact, in the panel, which is open to the public on the official UN website.

‘Hepsiburada supports women in every field at every opportunity’

Beyzadeoğlu pointed out that many of Hepsiburada’s managers and engineers are women, emphasizing that while creating new employment opportunities, they are trying to further shift the balance in favor of women. Beyzadeoğlu emphasized that Hepsiburada positively discriminates in all matters against its female employees, who currently represent 49.5 percent of all its employees, and stated that in this regard, their signing of the Global Compact is a source of great pride and happiness for Hepsiburada.

Beyzadeoğlu said: “Hepsiburda provides very important support to women, women’s employment and women entrepreneurs, both with their own strength and resources, and through collaborations with various government agencies, NGOs and other financial institutions. Since 2017, we have supported more than 29 thousand women entrepreneurs, 110 women’s cooperatives and 33 non-governmental organizations with our Technology Power for Entrepreneurial Women program alone. Even these numbers and the upward trend show very clearly what ‘Women’s Power’ can achieve, given the opportunity to broaden their vision and sufficient opportunities and support.”

In addition to the standard structures, Hepsiburada offers its own female employees psychological support, wellness programs, physical and social opportunities with a focus on sports, nutrition, family and children, emergency funds, career-oriented training programs, special collaborations for new graduate women engineers, and Beyzadeoğlu stated that she has affirmative action at every opportunity and in every field, such as career camps, concluding her words by saying: “Such simple and necessary practices and new approaches that make a difference show how a company can support women’s self-development with the vision, investment and determination in this direction.”
