Apple to add iPhone 5C and iPad mini 4 to legacy list

It looks like Apple plans to add two products to its list of “legacy” devices in November 2022. If the report is correct, the iPhone 5C and iPad mini 4 will be the latest additions to this list of legacy devices.

For those who don’t know, the Cupertino-based giant usually calls a device “vintage” five years after its official announcement. But when a product reaches seven years of age, the company marks these devices as “obsolete.” In a similar move, Apple recently announced that the iPhone 6 is a legacy device from the brand. Now, the iPhone 5c, introduced in September 2013, seems to be the last smartphone to enter the list.

This news is not surprising considering the iPhone 5c is more than nine years old. The device was launched as a more affordable version of Apple’s 2013 flagship iPhone 5s. The iPad mini 4, on the other hand, played a similar role, offering a relatively smaller screen as a tablet, measuring 7.9 inches and also costing less than the larger iPad models of the time. This model was also marketed towards recreational consumers rather than creative professionals.

Adding a device to the list of “deprecated” devices means that the company can no longer provide hardware support for those products. Software support for these devices ended some time ago, but the brand will no longer offer paid repair services either.
