China has launched a new operational remote sensing satellite for disaster prevention, emergency management and environmental monitoring.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to Xinhua.
The S-SAR01 satellite was launched at 06:53 Beijing time using a March-2C launch vehicle from Taiyuan Space Port in Shanxi Province (North China).
The satellite entered the given orbit. Its main users will be the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China.
By receiving S-band radar image data with a resolution of 5 meters, the satellite will warn against natural disasters and contribute to the reduction and elimination of their consequences. China’s National Space Administration will also contribute to environmental protection, and its data can be used for natural and water resources protection, agriculture, forestry, earthquake monitoring, etc. He said it will be widely used in the fields.
This launch was the 443rd for the Changzheng series launch vehicles.
