Citroen promises all-electric car will be made from recyclable materials

Citroen has officially unveiled a new electric vehicle built from recycled and recyclable materials.. Called the automaker Citroen Oli, it promises to reduce weight and complexity for consumers, as well as being more affordable.

Despite being made from recycled materials, Citroen wants the Oli to last longer than other traditional electric vehicles on the market. Now it is expected the manufacturer will present a new electric model at the next Paris Motor Show, which will be held from 17 to 23 October..

The automaker revealed that the car contains a significant amount of recycled materials, such as the body itself. Citroen Oli seats, for example, contain 80% fewer components than other car seats. All of them have been replaced with recycled materials.

The roof and rear of the new Citroem electric vehicle, created in collaboration with BASF, were made from recycled corrugated cardboard. However, they have been reinforced with fiberglass to provide the necessary resistance to day-to-day vehicle use, as is already the case in conventional vehicles.

Range of 400 kilometers and uncertain prices

Citroen has said that the service for the owners of the following Oli cars will be considered “low-key”. If certain components need to be replaced, the automaker said it will supply Oli parts for them that are no longer in use. Despite claiming that these replacements will be simple and cheap, the manufacturer did not name an average price for this repair.

All recyclable components have enabled Citroen to create a lighter car. With various design changes, such as the addition of cardboard components instead of steel, the car would weigh exactly one tonne (1,000 kg). The Oli already has a 40kWh battery that will allow it to travel 400km.

One of the novelties confirmed by Citroen is that Oli will have an updated logo, similar to the one used by the automaker itself at the beginning of its journey. Unfortunately, no price predictions have been provided for consumers, and this is one of the few remaining details to be released to the market.
