“While this launch attempt didn’t quite go as we had hoped, it was still a valuable learning opportunity and a huge win for the new relationship between Iceland and the UK and the European space industry as a whole,” said Volodymyr Levykin. Founder and CEO of Skyrora.

Levykin, who was born in Zaporizhzhia but has long lived in Great Britain, added that despite the failure in Iceland, he is confident that his company will achieve its goal of launching an orbital vehicle from British soil in 2023.

Edinburgh-based Skyrora will begin orbital launches next year from the Saxavoord Spaceport under construction in the Shetland Islands. They plan to use a much larger device – Skyrora XL.
