The Lenovo ThinkPhone has emerged in Internet gossip as an extension of the PC brand the Chinese firm acquired from IBM in 2003 that could also have a place in mobile phones.
When Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility from Google in 2014, it made it clear that it was phasing out the brand in favor of its own. Eight years later, the strategy changed and Lenovo kept and promoted the Moto brand with the only exception, the “Legion” gaming phones.
Could the Lenovo ThinkPhone be another departure from the mainstream?
That’s what leaker Evan Blass says, referring to the terminal codenamed ‘Bronco’, which in this case would take advantage of the Think brand that Lenovo acquired from IBM to eventually become the world’s leading producer of personal computers.
The terminal would fit in the high line as the most advanced current Moto Edge. I would have one 6.7 inch OLED display, FullHD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080) and a refresh rate of 144 hertz. Its engine would arrive from Qualcomm sa Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 / Gen 2.
It would include 12 GB of LPDDR5 memory and several internal storage options, up to 512 GB, and the expected high-range connectivity, 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC and USB-C, with a battery capacity close to 5,000 milliamps. With fast and wireless charging function. The camera setup would be similar to the one mounted on the current Moto Edge 30 Pro.
If this ThinkPhone is confirmed, there’s a good chance that Lenovo intends position it as an enterprise class device due to the name change. Think, formerly IBM, has built a strong reputation especially in the business environment, but it’s not clear that customers will be affected if it’s just Motorola’s rebranded consumer devices.
Lenovo would have to add specific features to it if it wants to appeal to the professional market. We’ll see.
