Social network Instagram has started testing a new method in India and Brazil to verify users’ age in video selfies using artificial intelligence algorithms. This was reported by TechCrunch.
It is stated that the countries were chosen because they have two other key markets for the service besides the USA. According to data from analytics firm Sensor Tower, there are around 400 million monthly active users in total in India and Brazil.
Instagram added that it plans to launch an age verification program using artificial intelligence in the UK and EU countries by the end of 2022.
Age verification is carried out using the technology of the British enterprise Yoti. The user takes a video selfie, and then the company’s artificial intelligence determines the age. Both Instagram and Yoti claim that they do not store user data after verification and that the system does not pose any risk to data privacy.
