The State Private Communications and Information Protection Service has given advice on what to do if your Google account has been hacked.
As reported by Ukrinform, the State Special Communications Service reported this on Telegram.
The message reads, “In most cases, the Google system will warn the user of any suspicious activity with the account. However, you should watch out for non-obvious signs that may indicate the account has been hacked.”
In particular, hacking indicates a change in personal data in the account (for example, a phone number) or other settings that the user did not make. An unknown device may appear in the active sessions list. It also means hacking if received letters are lost in the mailbox, or “other” letters appear in the “Sent” folder, or for unknown users to access Google Drive files even though they are not provided.
If the user has not lost access to the account, the first step is to change the password for the account, as well as all the same passwords for other applications and sites, and passwords stored in the Google account.
Next, you need to go through the list of devices that the account is signed into (Security – Your devices – Manage all devices) and delete all unfamiliar and inactive devices. All settings should be checked and any unknown changes corrected.
“If access to the account is lost, use the account recovery function. You need to answer a few questions to prove you are the owner,” the State Security Service said.
To protect yourself from hacking, you should take care to protect your Google account in advance: set a strong password, set up two-factor authentication, and write down a backup phone number and email address for recovery in case of an attack. You also need to enable enhanced secure browsing on websites – this will allow you to more effectively protect yourself against phishing and malware.
“We advise you to pay attention to notification letters from the Google security system. Make sure this is not a secret phishing message from hackers – check the sender’s address carefully,” the State Intelligence Service added.
As reported by Ukrinform, the State Special Communications Service was reminded how to protect gadgets from viruses.
