A new problem for the iPhone 14, although it is fair to admit that those previously detected in this new generation of Apple smartphone were resolved with the first iOS 16 updates, primarily with iOS 16.0.2, but also to a lesser extent with iOS 16.0.1 and iOS 16.0.3. In this regard, we have already done a review a few weeks ago of the problems identified in the first days and how they were quickly solved by those in Cupertino. I said it then and I say it now: it is true that there were problems, which is reprehensible, but there were also many disasters.

And now we find another issue reflected by MacRumors, which claims it had access to internal Apple documents, specifically a memo acknowledging that The iPhone 14 has a problem that affects the SIM card and thus the cellular connection. A problem for which, at least for now, there does not seem to be a definitive solution, although the company is already working on it.

According to the aforementioned internal document, the decision concerns the entire family, i.e. plays on iPhone 14‌, ‌iPhone 14‌ Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max and when it occurs, users will see a message with the text «SIM is not supported» on your device. This of course means that the device loses mobile connectivity, although at least in principle it seems that the rest of the functions remain unchanged, so its functionality, still limited, is not completely lost when using WiFi networks.

The investigation so far suggests that the problem is not a hardware failure, which is in line with the fact that information about the problem started to spread these days. So everything points to the fact that the problem would come from the hands of one of the operating system updates. Therefore, If you’re an iPhone 14 user whose cellular connection is working fine, it’s best not to update iOS for now. For users who encounter the error message, Apple recommends allowing a few minutes to pass for now, as in some cases the message has disappeared and cellular connectivity has been restored without issue.

Even if Apple quickly finds a solution to this problem in the iPhone 14 with iOS, the question remains how it will be integrated into the operating system updates. Apple is already testing iOS 16.1 among developers and it is scheduled to hit the market at the end of this month. So it seems more likely that once the cause of this problem is discovered, which we hope will be as soon as possible, rolling out to users on iOS 16.1.1.
