Ddrone has a range of anti-drone tools and more than 700 solutions are already in the hands of armed forces around the world. The company announced the addition of a portable system that can jam radio frequencies, effectively preventing drone pilots from operating their UAVs.

Once disconnected, what happens next depends on the drone and how it is programmed to behave after losing contact with its pilot. Some will sit where they are, while others will try to return to the place of departure. It’s not clear what will happen if the drone operates autonomously along a programmed path, or perhaps uses some sort of automated flight algorithm to guide it to its target.

The new DedroneDefender is designed for civil, state and local authorities in urban environments. Weighing 3.5kg and 55cm long, it uses narrowband or “comb” interference to provide the least possible interference with other devices.

The company claims that when communication with the drone is lost, the vehicle enters a preprogrammed safety mode to minimize risk to others and damage to the drone.
