Microsoft has released a new update (KB5020435) for Windows 10 computers to fix an issue with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) connections. The main points in this update are the same for Windows 10 20H2, 21H1 and 21H2, they look like this:
Main points
We will address an issue that may affect some Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) connections. These connections can have handshake errors. For developers, affected connections will likely take one or more writes followed by partial writes of less than 5 bytes in a single input buffer. If the connection fails, your application will receive a “SEC_E_ILLEGAL_MESSAGE” error message.
There are also two known issues with workarounds, these are:

Symptoms
On devices with Windows installations created from custom offline media or a custom ISO image, this update may remove Microsoft Edge Legacy, but will not automatically replace it with the new Microsoft Edge. This issue only occurs when custom offline media or ISO images are created by flash-flashing the image without installing an offline servicing stack update (SSU) released on or after March 29, 2021.note. This does not affect devices that connect directly to Windows Update to receive updates. This applies to devices using Windows Update for Business. All devices connecting to Windows Update should always receive the latest SSU versions and the latest cumulative update (LCU) without any additional action.
To avoid this issue, be sure to export the SSU released on or after March 29, 2021 to a custom offline media or ISO image before using the LCU. To do this with the SSU and LCU combo packages currently used for Windows 10 version 20H2 and Windows 10 version 2004, you must remove the SSU from the combo package. To get the SSU, follow these steps: Remove the cabinet from the MSU using this command line (using package KB5000842 as an example): Unzip Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.msu /f:Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cabRemove the SSU from the previously removed cabinet using this command line: Unzip Windows10.0-KB5000842-x64.cab /f:* Then it will be your SSU cabinet, in this example SSU-19041.903-x64.cab. Move this file to your offline image first, then to the LCU. If you have already encountered this problem when installing the operating system using the appropriate media, you can mitigate this problem by directly installing the new Microsoft Edge. If you need to widely deploy the new Microsoft Edge for business, see Microsoft Edge for Business. Download and deploy Microsoft Edge for Business.
After installing this update, some Windows devices may have issues with sound not working. Some affected Windows devices may have no sound, but other affected Windows devices may have problems with only certain ports, certain audio devices, or only certain applications. Most audio device drivers have either audio enhancement turned off before this update is installed, or the audio device driver has issues with audio enhancement.
This issue can be mitigated in different ways depending on your symptoms and whether you have already installed an update. See the known issue in the health version of Windows for instructions on how to avoid and mitigate this issue. This issue was resolved using a known issue rollback (KIR). This KIR prevents the issue from occurring on Windows devices that do not have KB5015878 installed, but does not affect devices already affected by this known issue. Note that it can take up to 24 hours for KIR to automatically propagate to consumer devices and unmanaged work devices. Restarting your Windows device can help you apply KIR to your device faster. This issue can be resolved by installing and configuring a custom Group Policy for enterprise devices that have installed the relevant update and are experiencing this issue. Private Group Policy can be found at: section Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates >. For information about deploying and configuring this custom Group Policy, see Deploying and configuring this custom Group Policy. How to use Group Policy to deploy a known rollback issue. Download Group Policy with Group Policy Name:Windows 10, version 21H2, Windows 10, version 21H2, Windows 10, Download for version 20H2 – KB5015878 220706_045043 Known issue RollbackImportant What you need to solve this problem Set and Configure Group Policy for your version of Windows.
Applying available updates via Windows Update should protect you from this issue. If you have a standalone computer running Windows 10, you can also download a separate package of this update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
