The US State Department positively evaluated the decision of SpaceX founder Elon Musk to withdraw his request from the Pentagon for the financing of Starlink satellite internet and to provide it with its own resources.
According to Ukrinform’s own correspondent, Karen Donfrid, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, reported this.
“As we can see, Starlink plays an important role for Ukraine, because it provides access to the Internet,” he said.
In this regard, the representative of the State Department emphasized: “We of course welcome comments by Elon Musk that SpaceX is ready to continue financing the provision of Starlink to Ukraine (services – ed.).”
We would like to remind you that last week, the American media reported that SpaceX applied to the US Department of Defense to take over the payment for satellite internet communication services provided by Starlink terminals in Ukraine.
Musk later clarified that he did not seek reimbursement of the costs already incurred, but that he was unable to continuously finance the operation of the transferred terminals, which would cost the company more than $120 million by the end of the year and approximately $400 million over the next 12 months. .
After backlash over the posts of SpaceX’s founder, he announced that he has decided to continue funding the services. And this Monday, Musk announced that he will be creating a donation function on the checkout page for Starlink services. In addition, his company closed the issue and formally withdrew the request to the US Department of Defense.
