In the northern Japanese city of Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture, a warning system has been implemented using drones to warn beachgoers of the threat of a tsunami.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.

In the event of a tsunami warning, two drones placed in metal boxes near the beach will take off and issue a “High Tsunami Likelihood” warning.

The devices are programmed to fly along the coast and call on the coast-dwellers to evacuate.

The local government launched the system in 2011 after several officials died in the devastating tsunami while helping local residents evacuate after a tsunami warning was issued.

It is stated that drones can also reach coastal areas where warnings from fixed central systems are not heard.

Authorities control the drones thanks to a special network that can work even in natural disasters.

According to representatives of local authorities, drones can move faster than helicopters and warn people at lower altitudes.

According to the news of Ukrinform, the Alpin unmanned helicopter developed and produced by Titra Technology company, which works in unmanned systems, artificial intelligence, cyber security and other high technology fields, was introduced in Turkey.
