There’s no doubt that Netflix is making big changes to its business model. The ad economy plan has been one of the most important, but not the only, developments in this regard, as the streaming giant prepares for a global rollout, payment of an additional fee so we know as shared accounts.
I put you in a situation where only now when we subscribe to Netflix do we have the option share our account with a certain number of devices, and it doesn’t matter if they are in our home or away. In my case, I share my account with my parents and in-laws because that way I can get the most out of the 4K plan subscription.
Unfortunately, that is about to change. We already told you about it back then in this article and today we know that it is very likely that Netflix will generalize the account sharing fee from 2023. From that date it will be $2.99 additional fee by sharing an account with all devices that connect outside of the main home. To facilitate the transition to this model, the company launched a tool that allows you to migrate profiles when creating a new Netflix account.
Basically, this extra charge only seems to affect those who share an account to watch Netflix on their TV, so in theory those connecting from a smartphone or computer won’t have to pay it, at least for nowas this could change in the short or medium term.
We’ll have to see how this move affects Netflix’s user share, primarily if this additional fee will eventually be enough to compensate for the loss of users that this platform will suffer irreversibly when it starts charging for account sharing. In my case, I’ll end up keeping the subscription because like I said, it’s ultimately worth it to share with my loved ones, but I understand that there will be many people who don’t add their numbers up anymore.
I remind you that by paying an additional fee of $2.99 we can share the account with up to two other householdsand limited to two devices. This means that if we wanted to share an account with four households, we would have to pay two installments of $2.99 plus the main subscription fee.
