The U.S. Air Force’s fastest aircraft is the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bomber, which has proven to be faster than fifth-generation fighters. Columnist for the American publication 19FortyFive named Brent Eastwood as the fastest plane.

Other than the Space Force X-37B mini-shuttle, which can fly between Mach 16 and Mach 25, the fastest aircraft is the F-15E Strike Eagle. The F-15E can reach speeds of Mach 2.4 to 2.5, or about 1,875 miles per hour. For comparison, the F-35 has a maximum speed of Mach 1.6, while the F-22 has a slightly slower speed than the F-15E at Mach 2.2.”– Writes Eastwood.

The F-15E received two Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 turbojet engines with afterburner. The publication claims that F-15E pilots can switch from minimum rpm to maximum afterburner in four seconds. This allows the F-15E to maneuver without losing speed.

The F-15E Strike Eagle two-seat fighter-bomber made its maiden flight in 1986. The aircraft received the M61A1 Vulcan gun and a nine-point gun suspension.
