Microsoft has announced the release of the Windows 10 2022 Update, the second major operating system update, also known as Windows 10 22H2, which is already rolling out

Microsoft has announced the release of the Windows 10 2022 Update, the second major operating system update, also known as Windows 10 22H2, which is already rolling out across all channels and for both professional and consumer editions.

Microsoft continues to develop two client operating systems in parallel. If Windows 11 recently received the Fall Update, now it’s Windows 10’s turn. And it is important because the majority of users have remained in this operating system, either because they could not migrate to Windows 11 due to the increase in hardware requirements, because of its lower performance, because of its unfinished interface or because the implementation of the features promised at launch is still missing.

That’s what Microsoft says “based on customer feedback”Windows 10 2022 Update includes a limited range of new features and functions and it is delivered “through a familiar, fast and reliable update experience, continuing the trend of Windows 10 feature updates delivered in an optimized way using service technology”.

Translation of the above. He speaks silver. The new update contains very few new features (in fact, Microsoft hasn’t even released the usual list of release notes) and is aimed at improvements to the overall Windows experience in areas of existing features such as quality, productivity, and security. Many of us who maintain production PCs on Windows 10 (even Windows 11 compliant) prefer fewer new features in exchange for more stability and fewer bugs. And that’s what this version promises.

Installing the Windows 10 2022 Update

The new update is free for older versions of the system. For business users or consumers with devices running version 20H2 or later, the update will have a quick install and is now available in several ways:

Update (Windows Update)

Upgrading from a previous version of Windows 10 is very simple and is done as follows:

  • Open Settings > Update & Security.
  • You will see “Feature update to Windows 10 version 22H2”. Click “Download and Install” to start a wizard to guide you.

The update is virtually automated and is installed as a monthly version of the quality features. It keeps all files, applications and user settings, although if you want to make sure that with new versions of Windows you never need a previous backup just in case.

Update (website)

Another way to install if your particular computer did not receive the version in Windows Update is to activate it from the Microsoft web portal:

  • Go to the official Windows 10 download page.
  • Click the “Update Now” button.

  • Run the downloaded file “Windows10Upgrade9252.exe”
  • Click “Update Now”.

The installer will announce the installed version and the version to be updated, 21H2. The Windows Update Wizard will go through this process automatically. Like the previous one, this type of update preserves the files, data, user settings, and apps you’ve installed. (In any case, we recommend a deposit)

Installation / Media / ISO

If you want to update 3rd party computers or use the version to do “clean” installations from scratch or load them into virtual machines, there’s nothing better than using a media creation tool to create an installation DVD/USB or download an ISO image disc. In the following way:

  • Enter the Windows 10 download portal.
  • Click “Download Tool Now”.
  • Run the downloaded file “MediaCreationTool22H2.exe”.
  • Accept the license terms.
  • Select “create installation media”. (This tool also allows you to update your device, where it is done in the same way we saw in the previous section).

  • If you choose the first option, the same Microsoft tool will create an installation media that requires a USB with at least 8 GB capacity.
  • Select language, architecture and version.
  • You can also create media using your own application. For Windows ISO images, we recommend the infallible Rufus.

Windows 10 2022 Update Support

Home and Pro editions will receive the update 18 months of servicewhile the Enterprise and Education editions will have 30 months of service.

Microsoft recommends that commercial organizations begin targeted deployments and verify that their applications, devices, and infrastructure are working as expected with the new release. Version 22H2 is now available through Windows Server Update Services (including Configuration Manager), Windows Update for Business, and the Volume Licensing Services Center (VLSC). You have For more information on IT tools to support version 22H2, visit the Windows IT Pro blog.

As a general reminder, all Windows 10 21H1 editions will end of service on December 13, 2022, so keep upgrading. Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 10, version 20H2 will end of service on May 9, 2023. After this date, devices with versions 20H2 and 21H1 will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection against the latest security threats.

End by memorizing it Microsoft will support at least one version of Windows 10 until October 14, 2025. If you’re comfortable with the system, there’s plenty of time to upgrade to Windows 11, which will get more new features but a higher share of annoying bugs. And with Windows 12 on the horizon, staying with Windows 10 is a great option, at least for production teams.
