Apple tests third-party apps on nine new Mac M2s

Nearly two years after Apple introduced the first Mac silicon computers, the company is now preparing to introduce the next-generation Apple Silicon chip for its computers. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is currently testing third-party apps on at least nine new Mac models with the M2 chip.

Sources familiar with the matter have seen unreleased Macs in app magazines, suggesting that Apple is now doing final testing before releasing new computers. All new Macs are based on the new M2 chip, which is expected to be introduced later this year.

According to the report, these machines include MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini with M2 chips; new MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips; and the “successor to the M1 Ultra”, the Mac Pro with the Apple Silicon chip.

Interestingly, Apple is still testing the new Mac mini equipped with the M1 Pro chip used in the current generation MacBook Pro. According to sources, Apple was planning to release high-end versions of the existing Mac mini with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, but it was canceled, presumably to make room for Mac Studio.

The new Mac model has been mentioned in the Studio Display firmware, so it’s possible that at least some of these Macs will be introduced soon. Bloomberg’s Mark Gourmet previously said that Apple may announce two new Macs at WWDC 2022 in June.
