A few days ago, those responsible for Xiaomi Cloud missed a publication that gave a lot to talk about, but without specifying. In short, the end of Xiaomi Cloud was expected, because the cloud data storage service is now known and the basis of several applications that pre-install the devices of the brand, but also of subsidiaries such as POCO or Redmi.

The Chinese company announced so gradual dismantling of Xiaomi Cloud with the first effect: stop syncing photos through the gallery app. However, everything was left in limbo as what was seen as a rushed press release that didn’t even appear with exact dates was deleted hours after it was published.

It was not entirely clear when exactly everything was closed, but a decision of this type is not improvised. And while the company hasn’t said anything about it or denied what was published, we take it for granted. He pointed there abandoning both the Xiaomi Gallery synchronization function with Xiaomi Cloud and the Xiaomi Cloud Membership function… So what can we expect?

In other words, if Xiaomi Cloud membership does not survive, how will Xiaomi Cloud survive? After all, the cloud storage is used to store and synchronize data from other Xiaomi applications such as Notes. The mystery will probably be solved in the near future. Meanwhile, something else is confirmed, which was also mentioned in the above statement.

In addition, another change is confirmed, which was clearer because it was fully described: the “window of migration to Google Photos”, which closed at the end of 2023 and which has already been opened, Xiaomi says in a note that this time remains as it is. And yes, there is a migration to Google Photos, and in a much more decisive and prompt way than expected.

In fact, The Xiaomi gallery app will implement the function of syncing with Google Photos…. and will delete their own, still present and which synchronize images with Xiaomi Cloud. The rollout of the change will begin next week in some Asian regions, such as Singapore, and will later expand to the rest of the market where the brand operates, without a specific date.

The question remains whether, as indicated in the first note, the final closure of the Xiaomi Cloud, at least the storage and synchronization services associated with the photo gallery, will be maintained until the end of next year. But for now, everything that has been advanced is being implemented… the question now is whether to use the gallery or Google Photos directly. Or another application or service, of course.
