Xiaomi has announced a new way to backup photos and videos for MIUI Android device users. Instead of using Google Photos separately, Xiaomi now offers integrated functionality in the built-in Xiaomi Gallery app where they can back up their photos and videos from MIUI devices to Google Photos.

“Xiaomi is constantly looking for ways to improve our software product. Google Photos and Xiaomi share similar values and strive to provide a reliable platform for users and their everyday moments captured on their smartphones. Kwanxing Wang, General Manager of Product and Technology at Xiaomi International, said, “Our collaboration with Google Photos is “It will provide users with an easy way to ensure their data is securely stored, while providing easy access across devices when needed.”

“We’re excited to help Xiaomi users make it even easier to back up their photos and videos from their Android device to Google Photos. Shimrit Ben-Yair, vice president of Google Photos, can bring all your memories together to help you easily search, edit, share and relive your best moments on other devices.”

In addition to backing up content from MIUI devices to Google Photos, Xiaomi Cloud users will also be able to easily migrate existing photo and video backups to Google Photos. The feature will begin rolling out to existing devices via an app update and other markets starting in Singapore on October 24, 2022. Google Photos users have 15GB of Google Account storage (shared by Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive). Users who need more than 15GB of storage can purchase expanded storage and enjoy additional benefits through Google One. Users who migrate their existing Mi Cloud content to Google Photos can take advantage of Google One¹ demo trials during the transition, which provides users with additional storage starting at 100GB for 3 months.
