The Sunnyvale giant has two “secret” weapons ready to take on Intel and NVIDIA Ryzen 7000X3D and Radeon RX 7000. The presentation of both will take place on different dates, but ultimately the important thing is that both are converging and that they are called to become two first-tier startups that will play a key role in their respective markets.

The Ryzen 7000X3D processors will retain all the keys we saw on the Ryzen 7000, meaning they will designed according to the chiplet modelThey will have up to 16 cores and 32 threads and will repeat the values ​​and improvements of the Zen 4 architecture. The fundamental difference between them will be that the first ones will have a 3D stacked L3 cache, that is, they will follow the Ryzen 7 5800X3D design.

Increasing the amount of L3 cache through 3D stacking has very significant benefits that we have already seen with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. On one hand, improves performance in many gamesand on the other hand, with vertical stacking, there is no need to introduce changes at drawer level and space at the silicon level is not an issue.

We know that it is only a matter of time before AMD introduces the Ryzen 7000X3D, everything seems to indicate that the said presentation will take place during CES 2023scheduled for early January this year. The models that AMD will introduce have not yet been specified, but some rumors assure that the company will not be limited to one version, as was the case with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which was the only one of its kind to hit the market.

These new processors will have a configuration 96 MB of L3 cache in its single CCD versions (Ryzen 7 7700X3D and Ryzen 5 7600X3D) and 192 MB of L3 cache in its versions with two CCD units (Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D). Their operating frequency will be lower than models without 3D cache, but they will perform better in games, as we have already said.

As for the Radeon RX 7000, AMD will offer streaming next year on November 3 at 21:00 (CET) where he will introduce the new RDNA3 architecture. This new generation will repeat the use of infinite cache to improve bandwidth and will finally have a monolithic GPU core, since all its elements, except the infinite cache, will be on a single chip.

We expect the Radeon RX 7000 to significantly improve rasterization performance as well as ray tracing. In this sense, I believe that the externalization of infinite cache will be key will leave AMD with very valuable space at the silicon level which you can use to introduce new specialized building blocks. There’s less to be said for doubt, but I have a good feeling with this new generation of AMD.
