A group of Japanese researchers has found traces of noble gas in sand and other samples of the asteroid Ryugu, brought to Earth by the Hayabusa-2 space probe.

As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by NHK.

A team of scientists analyzed the samples in a sealed cylindrical capsule docked aboard Hayabusa-2. The samples were collected on the asteroid Ryugu, about 300 million kilometers from our planet.

Researchers say they have discovered small amounts of noble gases, such as helium and neon, which are extremely rare in Earth’s atmosphere.

It is believed that these gases were first released onto the asteroid by the sun and were released by rubbing sand or other materials together.

As Ukrinform reported, Japan’s Ministry of Education announced in the summer that researchers had discovered 20 types of amino acids in samples collected by the Hayabusa-2 probe from the asteroid Ryugu.

In December 2020, the capsule carried by the Hayabusa-2 probe during its six-year mission delivered more than 5.4 grams of surface material to Earth from the asteroid Ryugu, located more than 300 million kilometers from our planet.
