McAfee experts found 16 malicious apps with a total of more than 20 million downloads on Google Play. McAfee gave information about the work done in its new report.

It is stated that all the listed programs are disguised as useful tools such as QR code scanner, calendar, dictionary and flashlight. They are infected with the Clicker virus, which penetrates the smartphone, launches the browser in the background and clicks on various banners, thereby displaying advertisements.

According to McAfee experts, this type of malware activity threatens smartphone users with excessive consumption of paid Internet traffic and rapid battery discharge.

The company shared information about the detected apps with Google, so the app had already been removed at the time the report was published.
