A user of the Reddit forum under the pseudonym reggie_gakil reported that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card from Gigabyte melted on the computer during a gaming session in Red Dead Redemption 2. Wccftech reports this.

In the photos posted by Reggie_gakil, it can be seen that the melting of the plastic is occurring in the area of ​​the 16 pin power connector. It is stated that the player uses full cables and loops.

The authors of Wccftech believe that the cause of the meltdown is a strong bend of the power cable of the video card, most likely near the loop. According to the publication, cases of severe overheating of some elements of the video card due to similar manipulations with the wire are already known. The video card manufacturer itself warns that this is possible – to avoid problems, Nvidia does not recommend bending the power cable at an angle of 90 degrees or less when installing the RTX 4090.

At the same time, Wccftech is not inclined to accuse reggie_gakil of violating its operating rules. The fact is that the RTX 4090 is one of the largest video cards in the world, which makes it difficult to install compact and even medium-sized system units in cases without having to manipulate cables.

Wccftech also notes that reggie_gakil’s case is the first case where a strong wire bending resulted in melting. However, journalists fear that messages from other users who encounter problems will soon be received. The truth is, the RTX 4090 has been on sale for less than a month, which means that relatively few PC users have time to buy it.
