The German concern Rheinmetall presented the wheeled Skynex industrial defense system for combating unmanned aerial vehicles and other air targets. The company showcased a vehicle-mounted version of the Skynex defense system equipped with a 35mm Oerlikon Mk3 gun.

Skynex is Rheinmetall’s core air defense concept that sets a new standard with its unique and proven architecture. The Rheinmetall Skynex anti-aircraft system has demonstrated its ability to destroy swarms of drones in test trials. The technology includes a control system and Oerlikon Skymaster.

Additional equipment and launch systems can be added to Skynex, including Oerlikon X-TAR3D Tactical radars, Oerlikon GDF009 TREO 35mm backup gun, Oerlikon laser cannon and the new Denel Cheetah C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery, Mortar).

The 35 mm Oerlikon Mk3 cannon used in Skynex air defense systems has a long effective range of 4,000 meters and a firing rate of 1,000 rounds per minute.

The module is equipped with an X-Band surveillance radar, which ensures the operation of autonomous sector search, which makes targeting simple and fast.

Search and defeat are done automatically thanks to the built-in fire process. The system can be controlled remotely from anywhere. The Oerlikon Skymaster is a universal solution for command and control, which is of paramount importance for providing land defense.

Its main operational advantages are the display of a comprehensive aerial picture based on all available information sources, an effective real-time threat assessment and an intelligent weapon assignment algorithm, coordination of different weapon systems and fire control in a flexible system architecture.
