As reported by Ukrinform, this was reported by GSM Arena.
The Indian regulator said the American company “used its dominant position to force app developers to use the in-app payment system, rather than letting third parties do it as well”.
CCI stated that the platform is the primary way for developers to monetize their work through in-app sales.
In response, a Google spokesperson said the company was reviewing the Commission’s decision and considering next steps, as the decision could be appealed in an Indian court.
An investigation into how Google works in the payments market began in 2020.
A law firm representing the complainant said CCI’s decision against Google would increase competition and reduce costs for app developers.
As Ukrinform reported, in September the European Union’s General Court of Justice upheld an anti-monopoly fine of more than 4 billion euros against Google.
