The prestige of CD Projekt RED began to take shape with the first part of The Witcher And it seems unbelievable, but the day before yesterday it was 15 years since it arrived on the market, on October 24, 2007. Four years later, in 2011, it found a sequel in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and four years later, The Witcher 3 arrived : Wild Hunt, a masterpiece that puts us in the shoes of Geralt de Rivio more and better than ever before.
Since then, CD Projekt RED has released other titles related to the franchise, such as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game or two smartphone-specific titles. However, the arrival of the new installment, which would take over from Wid Hunt, was expected due to the developer’s other big project, Cyberpunk 2077, a title that had a frankly poor debut upon its arrival on the market, but knew that it was being redirected and that it currently scores positively, and to the extent that, as my colleague Isidro rightly stated, we can already consider it the best thing that has happened to the PC world in a long time.
As I said, both the development of Cyberpunk 2077 and the work on it after its release, they left the Witcher saga somewhat parkedto the extent that the much-anticipated version of Wild Hunt for the current generation of consoles is being delayed sine to diea bucket of cold water for a large number of fans of the saga who have been waiting for it for a long time.
However, we found some consolation when the company confirmed earlier this year that it is already working on a reboot of the saga, a title that will be years away and will probably not star Geralt of Rivia, but will still be if you add the experience of the previous installments of the saga and learning experienced with Cyberpunk 2077, the result can be exceptionaland while it’s best not to start inflating expectations so soon, one can’t help but be at least a little carried away by the illusion of what may come.
Now, to make the wait more pleasant, CD Projekt RED already announced at the beginning of October that it is working on a project with the code name “Canis Majoris,” which ultimately turned out to be a remake, or reimagining, as the studio defines it, of the original Witcher.from 2007. A return to the beginning, but for which CD Projekt RED will have the most modern tools at its disposal, such as Unreal Engine 5, accompanied by a set of tools that CDPR is creating for the new saga from The Witcher.
For their development, CD Projekt RED decided to launch Fool’s Theory, a development studio specializing in role-playing games, which, to the peace of mind of fans of the saga, counts among its ranks many experienced developers who previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. In addition, CDPR states that it is actively and continuously overseeing the development of this remake, which should guarantee a good result. There are no dates or other data available at the moment and we will probably have to wait a while as it is still in the early stages of its development.
