If US commercial satellites are used for military aid to Ukraine, they will become “legitimate targets” for a Russian attack.
According to Ukrinform, Kostyantyn Vorontsov, Deputy Head of the Nonproliferation and Arms Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, said this at the UN, TASS reports.
“This concerns the involvement of the United States and its allies in civilian infrastructure components in space, especially commercial infrastructure, in armed conflict. “Civil infrastructure can become a legitimate target for a retaliatory strike,” Vorontsov said.
At the same time, it is alleged that the West, in his opinion, exposes “unfair risks” the establishment of peaceful space activities and socio-economic processes, on which “the well-being of people” depends, especially in developing countries.
In the early days of full-scale Russian aggression in Ukraine, Elon Musk’s private American company SpaceX decided to assist the Ukrainian military and provided uninterrupted Starlink satellite communications. About 20,000 terminals were transferred to Ukraine, whose support cost the company $80 million. There was also information that the USA provided aid to Ukraine with the intelligence it received from satellites.
