Apple recently released new iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 updates for its iPhones and iPads. New updates usually bring some minor bugs and glitches, but this time the new updates seem to have some serious security flaws as well.
According to the report Economic Times, iPhones and iPads are facing vulnerabilities due to new iOS and iPadOS updates. The information comes from a consultation by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-IN). This report states that the latest versions of iOS and iPadOS contain a number of new vulnerabilities that could allow malicious hackers to remotely access a user’s personal data, execute arbitrary code and spoof an interface address. In addition, these hackers can remotely launch denial of service programs on the victim’s iPhone or iPad.
According to Cert-IN, several iPhones from the Cupertino-based giant are vulnerable to cyberattacks if they are running iOS 16.1 and iOS 16.0. Similarly, the vulnerability affects iPads running iPadOS versions prior to iPadOS 16.1. Apple iPhone 8 and newer models are affected by this issue, while iPad Pro Call, iPad Air 3rd generation and newer, iPad 5th generation and newer, and even iPad mini 5th generation and newer are also listed. affected devices
Cert-IN said that the severity of these vulnerabilities is high and is caused by a number of other factors besides inadequate security controls in the AppleMobileFileIntegrity component. Hackers can now exploit these vulnerabilities by forcing a user to open a malicious file or program. These files or programs may contain malicious firmware that could help a hacker gain access to a victim’s device.
