The Stealth 700 Gen 2 is one of the wireless battle headsets that peripheral specialist Turtle Beach has in its catalog. Conceived with video games in mind, the manufacturer markets them in several versions, “designed” under an official license for Xbox or PlayStation, although they can really be used in the same way on a Windows PC or other Bluetooth-connected mobile devices.

say for starters the sound section has established itself in all areas of computer and/or entertainment use. And we’re glad that audio is no longer the poor brother of technology compared to video. The mission “to do more than just noise” is in full swing, and two product groups are mainly responsible for the fact that users are increasingly demanding of the devices we place in our ears.

On the one hand, the small wireless earphones in the ears that we use mainly with smartphones and whose sales have multiplied in recent years both due to the search for higher quality and getting rid of cables, and in response to the fact that manufacturers no longer usually include them in the purchase of new mobiles. The second big group of products with a push to sell are the ones in our hands, the headsets that we increasingly use at the table in front of the PC or in the living room with consoles, such as this Turtle model that we had the opportunity to analyze.

Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Specifications

The range of audio peripherals has grown enormously in recent years. The competition is great and the solutions come from great specialists like Bose or Sony and others at the top of the audiophile spectrum like Sennheiser or Audio-Technica. Video games are a world and etiquette Playing used at discretion as a sales engine.

Turtle Beach is a manufacturer specializing in gaming peripherals, especially headsets such as those that are “designed for Xbox”, i.e. Microsoft consoles to which it connects directly using Xbox Wireless technology. Of course, it can be used with other devices, such as a PC, which we mostly used for testing under a Bluetooth connection.

Preliminarily, let’s say that this is the second generation of one of the most popular lines of the brand with new products in all sections. It has issues to improve (like everything) but it is what it is affordable mid-range model taking into account its features and relatively satisfied selling price. Turtle Beach ships the Stealth 700 Gen 2 in a box that includes the headphones themselves, a USB Type-C charging cable, a manufacturer’s sticker, and a quick start guide.

Design

These wireless headphones use the format closed headbandin the external connection of polycarbonate and internal reinforcement with a steel belt.

In a classic, understated, slightly oval design, the earcups are made of synthetic leather and fabric with plush memory foam that contains a layer of cooling Aerofit gel. As you will see in the pictures, they are made in monochrome black. They look and feel stable and robust.

The dual hinge system allows for a large range of tilt and allows the earcups to lie flat when not needed. They are foldable and can even be removed and more can be worn with glasses thanks to a tab that allows a small channel to be created in the pad where they rest.

All controls are on the left side, volume control, mixer, mode selector, power, Bluetooth (with additional multimedia functions depending on the number of touches) and Xbox pairing. There’s also a USB Type-C charging port on this side and a small status LED to indicate power, pairing or charge level.

Definitely there are a good number of physical controls, but the similar size and shape of the audio and Bluetooth modes, as well as the rotary volume controls, can be confusing to wear and fumble for a change. It’s just a matter of time before you get used to it.

The headphones also have a omnidirectional microphone which are always handy for interacting with third parties during gameplay or for other purposes such as video calling. Like the other controls, it is located on the left side and when not in use, it can be conveniently folded into a slot in the case.

The Stealth 700 Gen 2 are quite bulky, although their overall weight is not excessive, and the insole finish offers a quality, breathable and comfortable feel. It’s less comfortable great tension of the assembly on the ears. It has some channels cut into the pads to reduce pressure on the frames, but they still compress. We bet on the strength of the battle helmets, but this may be too much for some users who may notice some fatigue after playing for a long time.

Connectivity, autonomy

Xbox Wireless Controller compatibility ensures seamless and instant pairing with a dedicated button on this headset. with console, Xbox Wireless will automatically configure the headset connection. They pair like any other Xbox controller and can be set to automatically turn on when the console starts up. It’s simply plug and play without the need for additional adapters.

Just like on PCs, connecting using the Bluetooth toggle button and controls in Windows 10 settings is a breeze. It works well, despite being Bluetooth version 4.2 and supporting the default SBC codec, but – as is clear from its price point – it is not designed as a Hi-Res Audio device.

Thanks current Bluetooth connectionThe Stealth 700 Gen 2 also syncs with your smartphone so it can take calls while you’re gaming without having to pause your game or take off your headphones. Or listen to your favorite music if you prefer.

The headphones have a lithium-polymer battery that promises a autonomy 20 hours. The manufacturer’s specification is quite tight, and we almost reached it with standard audio playback. There are models from the same manufacturer that offer more autonomy, but usually have a higher price and 20 hours is enough for any day of battle. It doesn’t have fast charging, but it can be used while recharging.

In terms of connectivity, I prefer wireless headphones to have a wired connection for certain use cases (ideal with their audio jack), but I understand the trend is the convenience of wireless and these headphones work quite well. with good latency and no cuts.

user experience

Sound quality should be the main element to consider in headphones, and it has to be said that the 50mm Nanoclear speakers deliver what they promise. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 sounds really good in all frequency ranges. Always keep in mind how much it costs and to get sound without cables…

We were particularly surprised, in a good way, bass levels which it offers and which are not usually common in headphones under 150 euros. Intense and dominant in default mode, they are especially noticeable when launching games, their main focus. And that’s within the framework of a good balance between pitches and voices in games with a V-shaped sound profile.

In case you don’t want the rumble of explosions and gunshots to interfere with more subtle audio cues in multiplayer modes or listening to music, there’s a dedicated mode among the five presets designed by the manufacturer that reduces the performance of low tones below 100Hz and high-frequency sounds above 10kHz.

Turtle also offers the Audio Hub mobile application available for iOS and Android, where, in addition to updating the device’s firmware or reporting the charge level, it allows you to choose preset modes or try different sound equalization levels.

It also allows you to reassign the functions of the chat volume wheel and the “mode” button. And you will want to. The volume control is sensitive and you have to use it because the default profile shoots the volume to high levels and it also varies a lot if you use it on Xbox, PC or Android mobile.

The Stealth 700 Gen 2 has not excelled in outdoor use since poor isolation of ambient noise and they don’t have ANC controls for noise cancellation. It’s not really a feature of a gaming headset bulky enough to carry on the go, but it would be a plus for on-the-go use connected to a mobile via Bluetooth.

If we really liked it microphone quality and accuracy Incorporated. Voices sound natural and almost distortion-free, and recordings are of good quality. It provides accurate sound output across the vocal spectrum, even in the bass area where most gaming headsets are not as effective.

Conclusions, availability and price

We liked these Turtle Stealth 700 Gen 2 because – without being perfect – they bring value. Its build quality is notable for its metal reinforcement on the headband, good finishes especially on the mats, and an efficient double hinge system. Its connection is simple thanks to Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth support and a sufficient autonomy of 20 hours.

What we didn’t like was their bulkiness, excessive pressure on the headphones and poor insulation, which rules them out for outdoor use. In the main part of some audio peripherals, it should be repeated that the sound quality of the headphones, and especially their microphone, is above the average of the segment. If you bet on them, you will not make a mistake in your purchase.

The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 is available on the manufacturer’s website with an official price €149.99. They are also sold in the retail channel with Amazon as the protagonist, as it offers almost its entire catalog of headphones. A final note that Turtle has for sale a higher and newer versions of the reviewed model and that it was the one we originally ordered from the manufacturer.

In addition, the ‘Max’ version offers a 2.4GHz USB-A wireless RF dongle with cross-platform support for Xbox and PlayStation, which can be switched at the touch of a button on the dongle. It also supports Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and PC, in addition, it doubles the autonomy compared to the analyzed model and has fast charging. It costs only 50 euros more than the analyzed model, so it may be interesting as an alternative. You can purchase both on the manufacturer’s website and through retail channels.
