Amazon announced this Thursday (27) that Alexa has received an update that allows users to select male voices on a smart device.. The functionality has been available since last year in the United States. However, from now on, this feature is only available to Brazilians and all owners of Amazon smart devices can use it.

With the update, customers can choose between the original Alexa female voice or the new variant. However, it is important to note that the activation words for using an Amazon device remain the same. Even with the setting changed to a male voice, it will still be possible to talk to the device using three basic words such as Echo, Amazon and most famously Alexa.

The update is now available on devices

The update is expected to work on all devices. This one, who writes to you, for example, checked the change of voice to male and it turned out fine. After sending the command via “Alexa Change Your Voice”the new tone gives a brief idea of ​​what needs to be done to return to the old voice, and also shows users that it is possible to change the voice command of some of the device’s predefined functions.

However, it is important to remember that some device features such as stories, songs, and impersonation will not be available in this feature. One way or another, you can still count on all of them, but with the already traditional and well-known Alexa voice. When this content comes to an end, the voice will revert to a male tone, if that’s what users have chosen after the update.

To give users even more customization options, Amazon said that homes with more than one Alexa device will be able to expect different voice tones. This way, each of them will have a preferred voice chosen by the users, whether male or female. In the US update, the male voice was given the name Ziggy. Unfortunately, when asked about the name of the device in Brazil, he says that it is still called Alexa.

While Amazon is hard at work on updating the male voice on Alexa devices, the feature has been deprecated on devices that are considered competitors. That’s because the smart virtual assistant from Google and Apple already had this feature. Thus, it took the North American company almost 10 years to make the device more than one voice option to communicate with the user.
