For a week, the number of Reddit users who complained about the power cable melting on their Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics cards increased from seven to nine. PC Mag journalists drew attention to this. The problem is gradually gaining mass character.
It is stated that all affected users have the same problem: on video cards, the plastic casing of the 16-pin connector on the power cable melts during operation.
“The video card was only used for one day. I ran Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, played for three minutes and smelled burning. After that, I immediately turned off the computer and unplugged the power cord”– wrote a Reddit user.
As Nvidia continued to ignore the issue in the public domain, journalists and bloggers decided to research it for themselves. So, the authors of the German portal Igor’s Lab found that the cause of overheating and melting is poor-quality mounting of the 12VHPWR adapter on the power cord. The adapter uses a very thin metal bridge that breaks easily when connecting or bending the wire, causing sharp temperature jumps at the contact point.
PC Mag writes that in this case, Nvidia may announce that it will soon be recalling the Nvidia RTX 4090.
