ASUS Turkey filtered through the Zenbook 14 series laptop, which includes among its features a significant component that has not yet been announced: the first Ryzen 7000 Mobile processor.

You already know that Intel and AMD are in full swing with their new processor platforms as soon as the first models to match the desktop versions have been released. Another important market segment to cover is the notebook segment, and the new chips won’t be available for too long.

The leaked model (not yet officially presented) is the Ryzen 7 7730U under the Zen 3+ or Zen 3+ architecture. Its number of physical cores (6 or 8) with TDP consumption in the range of 15-28 watts and integrated Vega graphics is unknown. This would confirm that the Ryzen 7000 Mobile will combine the Zen 2, Zen 3 and Zen 4 architectures and their respective graphics. We don’t like this type of “recycling” at all (or rather refried) on next-gen platforms, but that’s how it looks.

this strategy may confuse the user that you expect the latest technology available (as happened with the desktop Ryzen 7000) and you find yourself with a mixture of architectures that have already been outdone by the years they’ve been on the market. You should know the configuration in detail to avoid surprises, because what we know so far is a chaos of mixes.

The rest, this version of the Zenbook 14, as well as its CPU, mixes new specs with older ones. It downgrades the screen quality from OLED to IPS, suggesting that this is a cheaper production model. It supports the most advanced Wi-Fi 6E wireless standard, but sticks to USB 3.2 (and not USB4), connects LPDDR4X memory (and not the newer LPDDR5), or installs a PCIe 3.0 SSD when Gen4 has been available for a long time and Gen5 arrives next year.

AMD should clarify this everything related to Ryzen 7000 Mobile specs. And it’s expected to do so at January’s CES 2023, the first major tech conference of the year, where we’ll also see the arrival of its big competition, Intel’s Raptor Lake laptop version.
