At least one new MacBook Pro model was expected to launch this year, but now comes some slightly different news. The final version of iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 is expected to be released in mid-December, and no new hardware is likely planned. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports in the current Power On newsletter, October 30, 2022. Gurman explained that Apple’s CEO confirmed this in the context of the most recent Apple Earnings call, and CFO Luca Maestri’s clarifications were also clear.

Based on his sources, the analyst is now targeting March 2023 as the most likely launch month for many new Macs. According to him, Apple is planning the final release of macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3 in the first quarter of next year, and the current roadmap calls for it to be available from early February to early March.

Two new MacBook Pro laptops, direct successors to the 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, will also be released during or soon after.

As reported several times before, these are just updated generations in the same design, but with the Apple M2 Pro and Apple M2 Max instead of the Apple M1 Pro and Apple M1 Max. Also in the plans is Apple’s first Mac Pro based on Apple Silicon, which Gurman says could be equipped with 48 CPU cores and 152 GPU cores. However, the analyst suggests that this could be delayed if Apple waits for the first 3nm chips from TSMC to arrive. A new Mac Mini based on the Apple M2 and Apple M2 Pro is also still in development.
