Mozilla fixed a known issue that caused the Firefox web browser to crash when copying text on Windows 11 devices with the Suggested Actions clipboard feature enabled. The issue affects Firefox users running Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 11, version 22H2, with this new feature enabled by default.

Five months ago a user said, “The browser hangs for a period of time (more than 20 seconds) when the entire window (chrome, viewport) is not responding to user input.”

“The videos and animations seem to keep playing. After a while, the browser starts responding again. The duration is variable and appears to depend on the number of extensions downloaded – my default profile may hang for a few minutes.”

Mozilla fixed the bug that works with Firefox 106.0.3, the latest version released Monday.

“Fixed incompatibility with Windows 11 22H2’s new Suggested Actions feature that caused hangs when copying text to a web page,” the Firefox 16.0.3 release notes say.

A workaround is also available

Windows 11 users who cannot update Firefox immediately are recommended to disable the Recommended Actions feature to ensure their web browser does not hang unexpectedly when copying text.

According to a Mozilla support document released today, “We recommend that Firefox users on Windows 11 version 22H2 temporarily disable the recommended actions to avoid this issue.”

To disable this feature in Windows 11, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key on the keyboard or open the menu”Beginning”and enter”Panel» in the search field.
  2. Press enter or select from results”Clipboard Options”. This will take you to the clipboard system settings.
  3. Change the switch next to “Suggested actions”to close.

Mozilla on Monday also fixed a second issue in Firefox 106.0.3, which caused startup crashes for users on all versions of Windows.

“Out of 220 installations of Firefox 106.0 and 106.0.1, all on Windows, 260 crashes. No crashes for previous versions,” the user report says. Source
