Elon Musk has commissioned Twitter engineers to begin work on a Vine reboot to prepare for the platform’s launch later this year.

As reported by Ukrinform, this is reported by Axios with reference to sources.

According to the newspaper, the company’s engineers have been instructed to review the old Vine codebase, which has not been changed or updated since it was shut down.

Vine is a mobile app that lets you create short (six-second) clips. It is owned by Twitter, which acquired it in October 2012. In 2013, Vine was the most downloaded free app on the iOS App Store.

Vine doesn’t integrate with Twitter, but it does allow you to add “friends” who use Vine from there.

At one time, the number of users reached 200 million people. Despite this, the service later failed to withstand competition from Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube and began to lose its audience, as a result of which it was announced on October 27, 2016 that the service would be shut down soon. Shortly after, Twitter tried to sell it, but to no avail.

As reported, Elon Musk on Thursday finalized the deal to buy the Twitter company worth $44 billion. He dissolved the board of directors soon after purchasing Twitter and consolidated his control over the company.
