At its peak in 2017, the site had 23,000 registered users and nearly 6,000,000 visits per month. But then his profile changed dramatically. Before long, the resource began to be used to sell illegal goods, including weapons and drugs, and an escrow system was used to protect participants of such transactions from fraud. This turned DiDW into a fully fledged forum-based trading platform.
Law enforcement writes that the gunman who committed a mass murder in Munich in 2016 purchased murder tools and ammunition from DiDW. As a result, in 2017 the site was shut down by law enforcement, and its operator was arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison.
