Elon Musk officially realized the job he had been looking for since April and bought Twitter for $44 billion. But this money didn’t just come out of Elon Musk’s pocket. Musk has raised money from many investors for the Twitter purchase.

Among these investors were also investors from Saudi Arabia and China. While Saudi Prince Al-Walid bin Talal is said to be the second largest investor in Twitter with a $1.89 billion fund, today an important development has occurred in this regard.

“We should be concerned that the Saudis are the second largest owners of Twitter”

“Today I request the Foreign Investment Committee, which investigates acquisitions of US companies by foreign buyers, to conduct an investigation into the national security implications of the Saudi takeover of Twitter.”

US Senator Chris Murphy has announced that an investigation should be launched into Saudi Arabia being one of the main stakeholders in the Twitter takeover. Senator’s Foreign Investment Committee justification for the call it was like this:

“We should be concerned that the Saudis, who have a clear interest in suppressing political expression and influencing American politics, are now the second largest owner of a major social media platform.

If this deal goes through, two of the major US social media platforms will be wholly or partially owned by China (TikTok) and Saudi Arabia (Twitter). This is a dangerous trend and we don’t have to accept it.”

The Foreign Investment Committee and the US Department of Commerce have not yet issued a statement. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia’s investment in US companies has reached incredible levels in recent years.
