Prototype of the first Android smartphone appeared

Rich Miller, one of the creators of Android, demonstrated the concept of the first smartphone to receive an operating system from Google. An image of the device was posted on Miller’s Twitter.

Judging by the leaked images, the phone was supposed to get a slider form factor and a physical keyboard hidden under the sliding screen. The device was made in black and green, had separate buttons for launching the mail client and the @ key.

The smartphone would be called the Google G1. According to Miller, the device was in development five months before the first iPhone was released. The entrepreneur explained that after the launch of the Apple smartphone, Google abandoned the concept of the sliding phone and focused on the release of a device codenamed Dream.

The first Android-based phone was the HTC Dream, which was released in the US in October 2008 under the name T-Mobile G. The device received a 3.2-inch TFT display, physical keyboard, Qualcomm MSM7201A ARM11 processor, 192 megabytes of RAM and 256 megabytes of internal memory. The device was equipped with a camera with a resolution of 3.2 megapixels.
