“The Q-53 radar has a long history of exceeding the Army’s requirements and adapting to its evolving missions”said David Kenneweg, Director of Army Radar at Lockheed Martin. “This final testing milestone reflects our commitment to improving and updating the system’s capabilities.”

The tests were conducted as part of the AN/TPQ-53 modernization contract signed by the US Army with Lockheed Martin. Technology is being developed to “increase the future capabilities of the radar and maintain its high performance compared to similar complexes from other manufacturers.”

According to the company, work under the program includes providing radar support for long-range high-precision artillery fire and performing anti-missile defense tasks.

The Lockheed Martin Q-53 MMR replaces the obsolete AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 medium-range radars previously used by the US Army.
