Sony has sold 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide

Sony announced in its latest financial report on Tuesday, November 1, that PlayStation 5 game consoles have already sold more than 25 million units. The electronics giant is said to have shipped 3.3 million PS5s in the three months ending September 30, 2022 (second quarter of fiscal year 2022); that’s the same number he managed in the same period last year.

This shows total PS5 console sales for the first half of fiscal 2022 as 5.7 million; this is far from Sony’s target of 18 million, unchanged by the end of the current fiscal year in March 2023.

Speaking on an earnings call Tuesday, October 1, Sony said PS5 sales are on track and still believe it can hit its 18 million sales target. The company also said it produced 6.5 million consoles in the second quarter.

Sony’s Games & Network Services division reported second-quarter revenue 720.7 billion yen ($4.88 billion), a 12% increase from the previous year, and a record second-quarter figure converted to Japanese yen, while profit fell 49% to 42.1 billion. yen ($284.6 billion).

Sony said the decline in game revenue was due to higher game development and acquisition costs (including the acquisition of Bungie), as well as the negative impact of exchange rates, which reflected a higher proportion of costs in US dollars.
