The Huawei Pocket S will be the cheapest (not cheap) foldable phone on the market. It has just been introduced to the Chinese market and is very similar in design to Huawei’s own P50 Pocket, Samsung Flip or Motorola Razr, personally I like it the most among compact folding devices.

To begin with, foldable smartphones will have to come down in price if they want to conquer the consumer segment. Many users are waiting… And there are several ways to achieve this. One of them is the strategy adopted by Huawei to reduce the level of non-essential components in order to reduce costs.

The Huawei Pocket S looks a lot like its big brother, the P50 Pocket from 2021. Repeat that 6.9-inch flexible main screen with OLED technology 21:9 aspect ratio, 2,790 x 1,188 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch sampling, there’s also a small 1.04-inch secondary OLED screen with 340 x 340 pixel resolution.

The most notable level of “downgrade” comes from its chipset. Compared to the previous Snapdragon 888, Huawei is betting on a Snapdragon 778G more affordable, complete with a configuration of 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage capacity.

There is also some dose reduction in the system main cameraIt replaces a third 32MP “ultraspectral” sensor with an f/1.8 aperture to capture color depth, and there’s a laser sensor for autofocus. The front camera is the same at 10.7 MP. The terminal has a 4,000 mAh battery compatible with 40-watt fast charging and supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 LE.

With HarmonyOS pre-installed and green, yellow, pink, black and blue color options, the foldable will be available in China on November 10 in the following configurations and prices:

• 8GB RAM + 128GB Storage: $820 to replace.
• 8GB RAM + 256GB storage: $890 change.

Although it is unlikely to make it to the international market at these prices, it is the cheapest of its kind and we hope that the strategy will spread and a new generation of folding folding machines will be launched at more reasonable prices.
