Windows 12 is on the way, and Microsoft itself recently showed the first traces of the operating system at its Ignite conference, which is believed to trigger a new change (and they are…) in the development cycle of its operating systems, with a return to the Windows 7 engineering plan in major versions every three years in order to improve ecosystem stability.

The Windows 12 we’ve seen from Microsoft isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it does show UI changes with a new floating taskbar at the bottom, system icons at the top right, a floating search box at the top center, and a weather widget at the top left.

What should Microsoft do to make its next operating system more attractive? Restoring some of the missing features in Windows 11, completing the implementation of Fluent Design and achieving greater consistency across visuals would be a start, but there are many other ideas.

Kevin Hall, the designer who served us concepts for Windows 7 or Windows 11 in the past, now proposes his idea for Windows 12. His creation combines Windows with features of other operating systems, such as AI image selection, which iPhone users will be familiar with or even lock screen with iOS 16 features.

Kevin describes his creation as “The most improved Windows ever” with major elements such as a renewed Start menu, interactive widgets or a dynamic taskbar. There are also new touch gestures and a “near control” feature that makes it easier to drag content from one compatible device to another (in the example of the Surface Duo 2).
