The head of the Turkish Defense Industry Agency (SSB) presented MIR, an unmanned sea surface drone designed to fight against submarines. This was reported by SavunmaSanayisST. İsmail Demir, Head of the Defense Industry Agency, told the press that MIR will have various functions.
“MIR will offer the user a wide range of capabilities, including multifunctional combat vehicles”said Iron.
The drone can operate autonomously in remote-controlled or manned operations. The novelty can be used not only for military purposes, but also for search and rescue operations, since the development will be compatible with various manned or unmanned vehicles.
MIR will carry electronic warfare, sonar and a range of missiles developed by Turkey’s state-owned missile manufacturer Roketsan.
“MIR will enter military service as soon as advanced sonar is integrated into the system”said Iron.
The seaplane was developed in partnership with military electronics specialists Aselsan, Turkey’s largest defense company, and Sefine, a private shipyard. The presentation of innovative anti-ship drones of Turkey is becoming more and more relevant against the background of the October attack by ground drones of the Sevastopol Bay in the occupied Crimea, the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
