Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Thursday he was unsure whether the operation he proposed would shut down and buy Twitter. However, he assured me that he had the necessary assets to finance the operation.
During his speech at the TED conference in Vancouver (Canada), hours after his proposal to acquire the social network was announced, the billionaire was asked whether he could actually carry out his plan, “I’m not sure.”
Earlier on Thursday, Musk made a formal bid to acquire Twitter, in a notice sent to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for $43,000 million (about 40,000 euros). He also threatened to sell all his shares if the offer was not accepted.
The South African billionaire, who is considered the richest man in the world according to Forbes, offered $54.20 in cash for each post on the social network.
Possible acquisition of Musk and Twitter
The operation needs to be approved by Twitter’s board, which has confirmed it has received an offer from Musk. He said he would review it to determine which path would most benefit the company and shareholders as a whole.
In his TED talk, Musk said he has a plan B if his offer is turned down. He insisted he had enough assets to finance the purchase. Therefore, you can do it as long as the board accepts the terms.
Musk’s proposed $54.20 per share represents a 54% premium from its closing price on Jan. 28, the day before the billionaire began investing in Twitter.
Likewise, they represent a 38% premium over the share price the day before their investments in the social network are made public.
