Neither the name nor the definitive form in which HBOMax and Discovery+ It’s being merged into a single service, but Warner Bros. Discovery — the name of the entity created from the business merger, which is another — has adjusted its plans to advance the platform’s launch, at least in the United States.

The news that Warner Bros. Discovery presented its fiscal third quarter of the year, and according to the trend, it’s not good. But not only because of the specific situation of the company, but also because the VOD sector in general is not going through the best of times, if it ever was. As an example, the losses of the recently formulated Lionsgate +, before Starz, whose disappearance is already planned.

Going back to Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s at moments like this – the results presentation – that announcements with momentum and ambition are usually best received, which is what happened, pushing the launch date of the new service that will replace HBO Max and Discovery+, which gradually combines them: if it would be expected next summer will arrive in the spring. At least in the United States, it needs to be repeated.

However, if it goes ahead with its launch there, it is likely to do so in the remaining territories where one or both services operate. So the same is in 2023, when HBO Max and Discovery + will also merge on this side of the pond, and not in 2024, as has been hinted at so far.
