Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched a launch vehicle into space on Saturday.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to AR.

Iranian state television showed the successful launch of a solid-fuel missile called the Ghaem-100. The news did not disclose the location of the launch, but it is believed to be in the northeastern Shahrud desert.

It is stated that such a rocket can launch a satellite weighing 80 kg into an orbit approximately 500 kilometers from Earth.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Commander of the Guard’s Aerospace Division, said the Guards will soon use this rocket to launch a new satellite called Nahid.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has its own space program and military infrastructure alongside Iran’s regular armed forces and reports only to the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Over the past decade, Iran has launched several satellites into orbit, and in 2013 it launched a monkey into space. However, five consecutive unsuccessful launches have recently occurred under the Simorgh program – another launch vehicle.

Like its nuclear activities, Iran says its satellite program is aimed at scientific research and other civilian purposes. However, the United States and other Western countries are skeptical of the program because the same technology could be used to develop long-range missiles.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 31, China successfully launched the last module of the Tiangong space station.
