Tests performed by AV-Test more than once have confirmed that it is Microsoft Defender best free antivirus for windows 10 and windows 11which is quite a success, but it has recently been obscured by the results that this security solution has achieved in offline tests.
These tests were performed by AV-Comparatives and you can see in them that Microsoft Defender achieved an average detection rate of only 60.3%, which is a very low number that ranks it in the last position. For comparison purposes, we can see the result obtained using G-DATA, whose detection rate was 98.6%.

What does this mean and what does it mean for users? Well, it’s very simple, the Microsoft Defender has a high cloud dependencyand that while you use it in its online mode, you will enjoy almost perfect protection, because in this mode its detection rate reaches up to 98.8% and the protection rate reaches 99.96%, which are almost perfect numbers.
A total of 10,040 malware samples were used in these tests. In the second picture we see that only two antivirus solutions have achieved full protection (100%), Panda and NortonLifeLock, although the former recorded false positive results. On the other hand, Trend Micro achieved a “low” result compared to the rest of the solution, as its online protection rate was 98.61%.

The second picture shows us the total number of threats that each antivirus solution was able to block. Microsoft Defender has blocked a total of 10,036, which means let only four malware samples pass. Trend Micro, on the other hand, let them sneak in 140 samples. The percentage difference is small, but when we talk about blocked patterns, we have a clearer view of how important this difference is.
Nevertheless, Microsoft Defender is the recommended solution
This is evidenced by the final evaluation given by AV-Comparatives. If you look at the attached picture, you will see it Microsoft Defender has been included in the three-star list which distinguishes antivirus solutions, which generally offer an “advanced +” level of malware protection. Panda would be on this list as well, if not for the false positive results that lowered her final rating.

Personally, I have been using Microsoft Defender for many years and I must say that my experience is very positive. The last time I suffered was a malware infection using Windows 7, although in this sense I must also note that since then I use the PC more carefully and more wisely. After all, it’s one of the basic keys to stopping malware, good user judgment.
If you’re a little careful when using your computer, you won’t need anything other than Microsoft Defender, says the voice of experience, although keep in mind that it offers the best only when working online.
