Radeon RX 7900 XTX will compete with GeForce RTX 4080 and FSR 3 will not be exclusive to RDNA3

When the presentation of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX took place, it was clear to me It was not suitable for GeForce RXT 4090. The performance data I shared with you, where I faced them with the mentioned NVIDIA solution and with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, left no doubt. It also made sense for the retail price of said graphics card, as it was placed under $1,000.

Frank Azor, Chief Gaming Solutions Architect at AMD confirmed this and said that the Radeon RX 7900 XTX it will directly compete with the GeForce RTX 4080top model that will hit the market next week and will be priced at €1,469, Including VAT. We don’t have the Radeon RX 7900 XTX price in Spain yet, but doing a direct conversion to Euros and applying VAT should be around 1,209 euros.

This is very interesting because we can be almost certain about it Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be cheaper than GeForce RTX 4080although in terms of performance I’m convinced of it will be slightly lower in rasterization, and this will be quite far from the NVIDIA solution when applying ray tracing. I’m not just talking, because in the first performance data extrapolations I’ve done, AMD’s new graphics are even below the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti with active ray tracing.

However, competition is always good and I am sure that this new generation of AMD graphics will be very well received, especially since it promises to offer a pretty solid value in consumption, performance and price. I look forward to testing it and will share performance data with you in future reviews.

The interview with Frank Azor also left us with another interesting fact, namely that, contrary to what the first information indicated, AMD is working on preserving the philosophy of FSR technology and in its further implementation. AMD’s CEO was very clear on this point, noting that it’s easy to launch a new technology and make it exclusive to the latest architecture, but that they’re taking a “more complicated path.” This means that FSR 3 will not be exclusive to the Radeon RX 7000.and that it will work on both the Radeon RX 6000 and competing graphics cards.

To achieve this widespread support, AMD has to face an important challenge, and according to Azor, this is the main reason why they had to postpone the release of FSR 3 to 2023. The information we have is still scarce, but we do know that FSR 3 will feature something called “Fluid Motion Frames Technology,” which translates directly to Spanish. I think we could be looking at a solution similar to the frame rate that NVIDIA used with DLSS 3, but I can’t confirm that yet.
